The coral garden and the Sand Shark were really fun builds. I enjoyed setting up a diverse ecosystem that immediately sells that it's under water. The new transparent anti-clips came really handy to suspend all the fish. I came up with the Sand Shark design when I tried to create a sandy underground for the scene. It fit, as the shark would lurk on its prey and emerge at the edge of the coral garden. I loved writing the dialog, especially the flashes of Laredos dry humor and bravado, but the biggest challenge was to create an action sequence conveyed only by images, unable to include dialog under water. I hope it worked!

(This build is NOT for the LTC

In the serene Bith Bath House...

After a series of harrowing and deadly adventures, Carm decided to bring some of his closest allies to the famous Bith Bath House on Actlyon for some well-earned rest and relaxation.

Due heavily to the unique Bith physiology, with their advanced senses and emotional depth, their species was naturally suited to creative pursuits and fostering calming environments. A small band of Bith refugees immigrated to Actlyon in the waning years of the Republic, creating their famous spa and managing to stay in business throughout the turmoil of the Galactic Empire and civil war. What began as a modest bath house eventually grew into a renowned retreat, drawing travelers from across the sector who sought a quiet place to escape the troubles of the galaxy.

The Bith Bath House stood as a beacon of peace in a chaotic galaxy. Beings of all kinds, from humans to aliens and even droids, were welcome to stay a while, resting up before their next journey. When one entered, they were greeted by the sound of trickling water and blasting steam, all while being warmed by the natural hot springs that flowed beneath the floors. Smooth stone walkways wound between pools of varying temperatures, with small waterfalls spilling into tiled baths and clouds of steam drifting lazily toward the high ceilings. Softly glowing lamps illuminate the pools, while exotic flowers, fragrant oils and strange incense filled the air with a mixture of scents from across the galaxy. Otherworldly sounds completed the atmosphere, as Bith spa-workers displayed their famous musical ability, filling the bath house with gentle flutes, strings and unfamiliar instruments whose melodies seemed to blend naturally with the bubbling springs.

Carm, Anja, Reekar and Z3-K3 reunited for their spa day together, washing off the scars and scuffs of their dangerous pasts in the calming waters. For once, there were no blasters to fire, ships to fly or enemies waiting around the next corner. Just warm water, soothing music and a few hours of peace before the galaxy inevitably came calling again.

As always, I welcome any and all comments, critiques and suggestions! This has actually been a build that I've had in mind for a long time, and this LTC was the perfect chance to bring it to life! I'd really like to revisit the Bith Bath House in the future to add more levels/details to it- hope you like it!

Hello! Jozhaam! I compiled everything before 5 ABY (there's plenty of material for after and during the Yuuzhang Vong wars that's from legends, but I did't include it because Factions isn't set at that time. I could find on everything related to Duros from Wookieepedia, Legends, and even a few games. I also added things that I have also worldbuilt like most of the language, the writing system, and a cuisine. The names are a mixture of pre-existing ones from Wookieepedia and games, and a few names and meanings from my own characters. The history, biology, society, government, and lending tradition elements are entirely from Wookieepedia articles, sw games lore, and legends references that I stiched together.

The Duros originated on the planet Duro long before the dawn of the Galactic Republic. In 100,000 BBY, Duro was surveyed by the Columi, who were not impressed. Later, Duro was conquered by the Rakata of the Infinite Empire and the native Duros were enslaved. Duros slaves were used to create the Star Forge in 30,000 BBY. However, they tolerated their cruel overlords, since it was an occasion for the ever-curious Duros to learn about their inter-stellar technology.

Following a plague in 25,200 BBY that killed only Rakata, the Duros rebelled and overthrew their Rakatan masters. The Duros then formed a hereditary monarchy. It was based at Ranadaast, a city named after Queen Rana Mas Trehalt (Rana Mas Trehalt Ena), which fell into disrepair and was infested by criminals when the monarchy fell into decline. The monarchy declined due to the rise of corruption, and control by a merchant council. Several years after the fall of the monarchy, Duro became a member world of the Herglic Trade Empire, the most powerful government in the Core Worlds region at the time. After the fall of the Empire, they quickly reverse-engineered the engines left by the Rakata, and thus invented the hyperspace cannon independently of the Corellians.

At an early age, the Duros became interested in exploration and ventured off their homeworld to explore the galaxy and their interstellar technology linked Duro with Coruscant (Korusam), Corellia (Korrol), and other Core Worlds; with the Corellians they built the first arm of the Corellian Trade Spine and with the invention of the hyperdrive, the planet entered a Golden Age as a Core Founder in 25,053 BBY under Queen Rana Mas Trehalt. She ushered her people into a cultural golden age by encouraging the exploration of various arts and sciences, particularly interstellar flight] Her scientists made profound breakthroughs in this field and within decades they had established orbital space stations over Duro. Around 25,000 BBY, the development of the modern hyperdrive led to a wave of Duros colonization under Rana's blessing. The Duros made first contact with many species, including Humans. Rana befriended a Corellian princess and received a ring from her as a gift. Rana was also one of the founding members of the Galactic Republic in 25,053 BBY. After she died at the advanced age of two hundred, she was succeeded by her son, Dassid Trehalt Renek, who continued his mother's policies of offworld exploration, expansion, and diplomacy. After his death, his crown was implanted with a murderous device, capable of killing any and all grave robbers.

The Duros also constructed large shipyards and spacedocks in their planet's orbit. The monarchy was eventually abolished in favor of a collection of ruling corporations.

The Duros colonized Neimoidia in 25,000 BBY during their earliest wave of expansion, though the Neimoidians were considered a separate culture by 15,000 BBY. The Duros also discovered Sneeve (Sniiv) in the Kymoodon Era, Adner in 5000 BBY, and Koboth (Kovos) prior to 219 BBY.

In 3962 BBY, the planet itself was laid to near-total waste during the Mandalorian Wars, when the Mandalorian invasion fleet advancing on the Colonies and Core regions destroyed much of the world using thousands of Basilisk war droids. Years of misery and rebuilding were ahead of the Duros people, merely the latest phase in the long series of Old Sith Wars. During the New Sith Wars, the Duros colony on Harpori was wiped out by Kaox Krul 1002 BBY.

In 220 BBY, during Duro's Industrial Age, the mining city of Tayana (Teihana) reached its height. In 200 BBY, the Tiercam Dam was built. The Duros also set up large food processing plants that polluted Duro's atmosphere, forcing them to relocate to 20 orbiting cities throughout their home system. During this time, the Duros households began to move to the residential space stations (ruhwompeks-zhabaaza) up in orbit. The surfaces were slowly being taken over by the automated farms. The farms generate food so efficiently that foodstuffs are slowly gaining more importance as an export.

In 20 BBY, during the Clone Wars, the Confederacy of Independent Systems (Rabuz heisomojukaguk) launched Operation Durge's Lance, a coordinated major campaign that led to the capture of Duro. During the Battle of Duro in 21 BBY, it was one of the first targets captured by the Confederate Navy. It was made the headquarters for General Grievous, and its capture allowed the Separatists to lower Duro's planetary shield, thus facilitating the planet's surrender within the week. The swift success of the campaign sent shockwaves throughout the Galactic Republic, and even neutral Corellia began to tighten its defenses. The Battle of Duro was one of General Grievous' most impressive military victories, and caused many within the Republic to view him as a greater threat than Count Dooku. Duro would be liberated by the Republic later in the same year.

The battle completely destroyed the already fragile ecosystem of Duro. The orbital bombardment had destroyed the last safeguards against the toxins, waste and air pollutants. It left Duro impossible to live on without protective hazard gear. This forced the remainder of the population of Duro to also move off the surface, to the orbiting cities (ruhwompeks-zhabaaza) of Duro.

After the Clone Wars, the Galactic Empire (Sooktuhulod-cudwos muuzhilaz) collected what was left of Duro's natural resources, and forced many Duros to move off the planet. Many Duros would become fugitives from their homeworld, and many joined the Alliance to Restore the Republic (Rabuz tramadaz). In an attempt to stir up conflict between Duro and Corellia, the Empire declared Duro to be part of the Corellian sector. The Duros only found this mildly annoying.

With the Trade Federation (Rabuz beikwo) nationalized by the Empire, the disgraced Neimoidians began to reintegrate themselves into mainstream Duros culture. At some point, Darth Vader's secret apprentice, Starkiller, was sent to Duro to dispose of a local despot who had grown too over-ambitious. While the precise details of the incident are unclear, All-Terrain Scout Transports were used against the darksider, earning his unending hatred of the walkers.

The 40 km long space city Pellezara (Pellezara ruhwompeks zhabaaz), located near the planet in the Duro system, served as a maintenance stop over for freighters en route to Duro.

The Lost King of Duro (Renek nozha Durohool oos) was a Duros king named Archregent Vardovin IV whose mummified hand was displayed in Dryden Vos' study onboard his yacht, the First Light in 10 BBY. On each of the fingers of the hand were ring lockets that held preserved cell samples of the royal bloodline dating back to Queen Rana.

In 1 BBY, the Rebels tried to free the planet but they were defeated at the Battle of Vnas (Kektaim Venasool oos). Although the New Republic managed to save Duros archaeologists from the Valley of Royalty, the Valley itself was flooded with toxic waste when the Tiercam Dam burst.

The New Republic (Sooktuhulod stadaks zeisojos) eventually liberated the planet, and put the system back in the Duro Sector.

Duro Biology - Lahaaks duro

Duros are humanoids with smooth blue-green skin, red to yellow eyes, lipless mouths, long thin noseless faces and green blood. Olfactory organs beneath their eyes were responsible for their sense of smell. Both females and males were bald, though both sexes were easily distinguished. Their large red goggle-like eyes also had slit pupils. Duros females laid eggs as they were descended from ancient reptiles, and like the Neimoidians, they were born in a larval grub stage, but unlike their cousins who left the raising of their young mainly to the state, the Duros took care of their offspring from birth.

When the Duros experienced high amounts of strain, a kind of oil—which had a highly irritating smell and bad taste—gathered in the sacs called gaarocu along their ribs. This was an evolutionary throwback and defense mechanism, remaining from when the Duros were liable to be eaten by a number of entities roaming Duro.

Some female Durese would attach ponytails made from braided jemsai hair to the back of their heads.

Each share of stock represents one vote, so the small number of the majority owners of the companies is among the most influential politically. CorDuro Shipping is an example of another major corporation important in the politics of Dur, based in the Corellian and Duro sectors. It is an interplanetary transportation corporation that was more recently formed, but with the founder and CEO's good direction, it has become one of the premier companies in the transportation industry for the Core. Financial analysts often say that this Duggan Station-based company is likely to be a major driving force in shaping the industry across the entire galaxy in the future.

Duros Lending Tradition - Tuuroddaicaguk duro

It is the collective name for the local customs Duros followed when a Duros lending institution loaned money (taica) to another party so that this party could buy an item, for example a starship. The debt then could be paid in pre-set units according to a schedule, or as a one-time payment of money with an interest of one-tenth of the original value. The lending traditions strictly forbid any debt restructuring. Following the tradition, the loan applies to the bought goods, not to the party asking for it. Should this person sell the goods to a different individual, then the new owner would be also buying the remainder of the debt — something that the seller could say to the buyer if an honest deal was made. Should the original debtor die before the payment was ended, then the debtor's inheritors would inherit both the goods and the remainder of the debt; if there were no inheritors, the goods might be sold. Notice that the lending institution could not requise the goods in this case because it did not have any claim to the goods, only to the profits made from the goods. If and only if the debt cannot be filled, then the lending institution can and should both requise the bought goods and revoke all the credit to the debtor. This would suppose a severe social stigma in the Duros society.

Cuisine - Ihwuda molguu Zhonaa

Durese cuisine consists of both homemade traditional dishes along with mass produced foods that have become more common on Duro since the planet has been polluted. Initially born from a hunting culture that evolved to protect themselves from the dangerous critters, Duros quickly adapted to agriculture. They made use of automated farms, which were so efficient that foodstuffs are slowly gaining more importance as an export. Now, they mostly have to import food or grow it in the orbital cities. They take great care to preserve ancient traditional ingredients and flora aboard their domed orbital cities as a connection to the world they once loved.

The traditional cuisine is more preserved among the kelben than on Duro, though Duros on Duro will eat more traditional foods on government holidays. Duros traditionally eat one meal in the morning and one in the evening. Hosting culture is very important with the host/hostess (treta) cooking the food and providing drinks. Generally the meal is structured with a drink, generally Leivaks served first along with an appetizer platter (Zhan ihwucuudwezool koollaz), and then the main course (Ihwudailstoos). During this last course, the host/hostess provides entertainment such as stories, songs, or dances. Duros generally eat out of large oval metal plates with upturned rims (zhan). Before eating, they are either covered in a thin, pliable flatbread (slarkalloo) or filled with a baked ceke porridge, and the food is placed on top.
Meals on the Rapuzhaa are usually served in large chambers with family, friends, or co-workers eating together in a circle. The food is provided by the kitchens, which prepare the ingredients to be cooked in communal pots within the circle. For quicker meals, there are cantinas, which serve ready to eat meals. These rooms are covered with thick mats and each Duro is given a cushion to sit on and the group is provided with plates, cups, and a cooking pot with utensils. It is also common to find instant meals and drinks to-go. Some Duro houses will have small kitchens.

Duro is one of the core worlds located in the Duro system and has no natural moons. It has twenty orbital cities colloquially called Rapuzha and abbreviated RPZh. It is in the Duro sector. Historically, Duro was a beautiful blue and green world with a temperate jungle environment. It had a large main continent. The native Duros enjoyed their cool and wet planet, as its climate is extremely comfortable for their skin which often becomes overly dry in other atmospheres. Due to extreme pollution, it is unfortunately now a toxic wasteland. It is one an important planet for galactic trade being the beginning of the Duros Run and along the Corellian Trade Spine. It has a rotation period of 33 standard hours and an orbital period of 420 standard days. Traditionally, Duro was ruled by a hereditary monarchy, but now is run by corporations. Voting power is given to shareholders (bullacegwa) of the national corporations, which control all aspects of life on Duro.

Kalarba Refugee Camps | Protectorate of Kalarba

The refugee camps on Kalarba have grown far beyond their original capacity. Every day, new transports arrive carrying families displaced by conflict, piracy, and instability to the Hevvrol Sector. At the sprawling intake center, refugees are processed, registered, searched, and assigned temporary accommodations before being admitted into one of the many camps spread across Kalarba.

Although the camps fall under the authority of the Protectorate, their day-to-day operations are administered largely autonomously by COMPNOR. Its personnel oversee registration, inspections, documentation, and the distribution of basic necessities under their own internal chain of command. Protectorate troops provide security around the camp, but COMPNOR answers to its own leadership, not to Captain Rheiker.

That distinction quickly becomes clear to Rheiker. He has been assigned responsibility for security at the camps; more specifically, Camp Shoreside, yet many of the people making decisions inside them are not his men, do not report to him, and are under no obligation to accept his orders. His first assignment as captain is already proving more complicated than he expected.

As one newly arrived family passes through the inspection area, COMPNOR personnel methodically search their belongings. Clothing, food, personal effects, and the few possessions the family managed to bring with them are examined before being cleared for entry. The process is impersonal and thorough, with little room for exceptions.

Then one of the bags suddenly flashes red.

The inspection officer immediately stops the family and orders the bag opened. Inside, concealed beneath their belongings, is a small animal. The family's young daughter had secretly smuggled her pet onto the transport, unwilling to leave it behind. What seemed like a harmless attempt to keep her companion with her has suddenly become a violation of COMPNOR regulations, and the atmosphere around the family changes instantly.

COMPNOR personnel move to confiscate the animal, but the girl's father immediately steps between them and his daughter. He insists that the pet poses no threat and pleads for the officers to let his family keep it. His daughter clings to him as the situation escalates, terrified that the only familiar thing she has left will be taken away.

These are not Rheiker's rules being enforced, nor are the COMPNOR personnel his subordinates. The dispute itself belongs to an organization operating behind its own authority. What began as a routine inspection threatens to become a confrontation in the middle of a crowded intake facility.

Captain Rheiker watches the situation unfold and is confronted with an uncomfortable reality: he may wear the rank of captain and command the Protectorate forces assigned to the camps, but there is another power operating within their fences. COMPNOR controls much of daily life, answers through a separate chain of command with armed soldiers to back it up, and can make decisions Rheiker may be powerless to stop. As the father refuses to move and the officers close in, Rheiker begins to understand that maintaining order here may mean confronting forces within the Protectorate itself.

The gang members inside were caught completely off guard, with some attempting to fight back while others scrambled for cover as the squad forces pushed deeper into the building. The main floor was quickly secured, and the task force made their way upstairs toward the office.

The doors opened, revealing a man surrounded by weapons, credits, and the remnants of the operation he had been running from the shadows. Axton immediately recognized him from that night at Canto Bight.

Alden Kreel.

After weeks of fighting through Coruschal’s streets, Ghost Squadron and the CSF had finally captured one of the planet’s most wanted criminals. Kreel was taken into custody and would be transferred to the New Republic for interrogation, where the information he provided could help expose what remained of the gang network.

Another piece of Coruschal’s criminal underworld had fallen.

After completing their training and receiving their equipment, the newest CSF recruits were ready to join the fight. Their first major operation alongside Ghost Squadron came after the New Republic received intelligence that a high-ranking gang leader was hiding inside a Coruschal WeaponWorks warehouse. With the gangs losing control of more and more of the city, capturing one of their leaders could provide valuable information about the remaining criminal forces on Coruschal.

Ghost Squadron and the CSF entered the district swiftly and quietly, trying not to tip off any locals or gang members. They wanted to give the gangs as little time as possible to react to the raid. Within minutes, the facility was surrounded and the area was secured.

“Rooftop is clear,” Talia replied.

“Good. Let’s get this place secured. If our intel is right, we’re about to have a very interesting prisoner.”

The CSF recruits followed Ghost Squadron into the operation, putting their training to the test for the first time. They had no idea what or who was waiting for them on the other side, but they were prepared for anything.

The blast doors were breached, and the raid began.

The village on Pam’ba was built into the marshy lowlands next to mangrove forests, separated from the mountains by the equatorial jungle. The village survived on rice paddies in the flats next to the river and fishing within the bays and rocky inlets adjacent to the coastline. Initially a prosperous community of 30 individuals who were refugees temporarily on Batuu, they had settled on Pam’ba. One such individual was Meru and her uncle Tiwat, both fishers by trade. They hoped for a peaceful life in their new home. Life was hard on Pam’ba. Almost all their resources, except what they’d brought from Batuu, were locally found. But for the villagers, the hard times had only just begun.

Previously

The village was desolate, the gates thrown open. Settlers lay prone on the walkways between the few buildings, a few houses, a granary, and a tool shop. Some were visible dead, Dorn knew the dead from living. Some were coughing and groaning where they lay, too weak to move. Dorn checked the first building. It was a rice granary. Two settlers lay dead, their eyes bloodshot. They had struggled for a bag of rice in their death throws. The rest of the building was empty. They had no food. It was as Dorn feared. He exited the building, going to check the building across, but movement from one of the prone figures caught the corner of his eye. He ran over to the villager, an elderly Neimodian.

„What happened here!?“

The villager simply coughed and made a few inaudible croaks. They exhibited the same signs as the two in the granary: bloodshot eyes and weakness. Seeing that he wasn’t going to get anything out of the villager, Dorn hoisted them up by the shoulders and drug them into the nearest building. As he opened the door, a voice inside screamed. A woman was curled up in the corner, unlike the other villagers, her eyes weren’t bloodshot. The room was humid, well the entire marsh was, but this was different. Dorn laid the prone villager on the floormat. He wrapped him in a cloak that he found hanging on the wall opposite the woman. Once he’d attended to the elderly Neimoidian, he looked around the room and could see the source of the extra steam: a pot of rice cooking. She had food.

„How do you have food?“ She said nothing in reply other than a whimper.
„Tell me!“
„It’s all I have sir, please,“ she begged. Dorn sighed, and he knelt in front of the woman.
„I’m not here to take your food. I just noticed the granary is empty. And there’s dead and dying all round.“
„Y-you aren’t,“ she stammered.
„No,“ Dorn replied, firmly.
„But I need to know what happened here. Your leader, Jebro, asked for my aide some weeks ago, I need to know where he is.“
„He - he‘s gone. He went with my uncle Tiwat to find salt flats. “I thought everyone was dead, that I was the last one. I haven’t been out in many days.“
„I think there’s some hope,” Dorn said. “This villager I found was still alive, barely. Can I take some food to give him?“
She nodded.
“His name is Rinjo.”
Dorn took a bowl next to the pot and ladled rice into it. He then took the bowl and attempted to feed the prone villager. He wasn’t sure if food was what he needed, but it was the best he could think of. After a few attempts of trying to get the villager, Dorn shoved the spoon of rice into the villagers mouth and massaged the jaw to make them swallow and not choke. He repeated this a few times. Then he took another bowl and a fresh spoon. There was barely any rice left in the pot. This he gave to the woman.
„Eat, you must be hungry.“
She took it without a word, and began to eat slowly at first, but then she took whole handfuls and inhaled it to finish the bowl. Once she finished, she looked up at Dorn.
“How did you know? About Jebro and our village?”
“I’m a freedom fighter with the confederacy. I met Jebro on Batuu. Finding your village was not an easy matter, but I wish to help you and Rinjo. We have supplies in a ship orbiting.”
Rinjo stirred, coughing, at the mention.
„It began…“ he croaked before coughing. Dorn suddenly moved towards them and leaned in close to listen.
„Three weeks ago…“
Cough!
Cough!
„Meru and Tiwat found it. The mine. A great pit, hidden in the bowels of the jungle. Impossible to see from the mountains.“ The prone villager pointed at the woman huddled in the corner.
„A mine?“ Dorn said, anger in his voice. „I thought they made sure the settlement was as far from the phosphate mines as possible?!“
„They did check thoroughly, identifying dozens. But, the miners were too smart with this one,“ the woman grumbled.
„How did you?“
„Algae in the river. It grew uncontrollably. The fish began to die. Then, the rice plants. I followed it upstream until I hit the jungle. Then, a pit. Great smoke emitted from it but it was covered better than most. Machines and dirt had been thrown in to hide it.“
Dorn bit his lip. This was bad. The villagers couldn’t stay here. “You can’t stay here.”
“What?!” Meru said angrily.
“Well, how will we get supplies here? It was difficult to walk here,” Dorn interjected.
“My uncle believes that we can fix this. They are out there finding a solution!”
“What solution?”
“They believe that if they can increase the salts in the river and additionally plant more, then the effects of the phosphate leaking from the mines into the river can be mitigated. They’re looking for salt and seeds.”

“I see,” Dorn responded. He admitted that he didn’t understand the natural scientific explanation for all this, but he accepted that it was logical. He was only a warrior and knew only about fighting. But if Meru and her uncle were right, then the village could be saved. “We must find them and aide them.”

“If you need a boat, I have one to spare,” Meru offered. “I can guide you. We can find Uncle Tiwat and Jebro.”
„Excuse me for a moment,“ Dorn said, as he exited the building. He pulled out his comlink. „Makedaa, Dosha, do you copy? I’ve found the village. I’ve identified two villagers, Jebro and another villager named Tiwat are missing.“
Static. A moment later, Dosha responded.
„Roger that, we found a pit in the jungle. Could be the source?“
„Based on the information Meru and Rinjo have provided, it is most possible. How long will it take you to get here, we need those supplies. Might need to see if the foundation can get some scientists from the new republic to analyze.“
„Several hours,” Dosha replied. “There’s rough terrain. Would be nice to have a boat.“
„That will be arranged."
Dorn stepped back into the house. “Before we leave, we must secure the other living villagers and quickly bury the dead.”
“I understand,” Meru replied. Dorn helped her up and they searched the village together. They found two other villagers who although they looked exhausted were less affected than the others. Together they took all of the living villagers and laid them inside houses, giving them cloaks, what food was around, and clean water. The dead they buried in a nearby bog. After that, Meru prepared the boat, a long thin craft with the middle section covered and room for sitting or storing goods. She agreed to help him find Makedaa and Dosha first so that they could organize a supply drop. Then, they would need to find Jebro and Uncle Tiwat. Meru pushed off the pier where all of the village's boats were kept.
“Do you remember the way to the mines?”
“Yes,” Meru responded. She seemed less tired and more confident.
“Do you think your uncle and Jebro would have remained close to the river?”
“Yes, uncle and Jebro left on a boat two weeks ago.”
They were well clear of the pier and gracefully gliding over the water in the bay towards the river delta.
“Then that is some hope yet.”
