A gift fit for a queen

What do you get a queen that has everything? Harlan had wrestled with this question in the lead up to this year’s Life Day celebrations. She’d received a surprising invitation to mark the day with Queen Devi’larosh and had ultimately settled on some candied Kubazi locusts. Everyone loved a sweet treat, right?

Devi’larosh was a Verpine, matriarch of one of the more outgoing hives of that insectoid species. Harlan had met the Queen twice, maybe three times before and it had always proved a great lead for the Relic Hunters. She’d never been invited about her ship however.

Entering the ship, Harlan felt dwarfed as she passed through a giant blastdoor into the main bridge. Everything on the ship was build to scale for the queen, who stood a good three metres tall -  although her hunched posture gave up some of that height. The bridge was fitted out in the queen's hive colours - red, white and green - which struck Harlan as suitably festive.

Harlan spent some time chatting to the other guests, Verpine mostly, but also guests from a smattering of other species not least Mustafarians native to the planet below. Finally, the Relic Hunter approached the queen.

"Matriarch Devi, it's an honour to join you. I have a token gift to mark the occasion." She offered the small box of sweet, which seemed decidedly small compared to the other boxes wrapped nearby.

"Thank you, Searcher Harlan. The honour is mine to share this Life Day with you. I, too, have a small gift for you." Queen Devi motioned to one of her male drones, who immediately left the room.

Harlan was intrigued.

Shortly after, the drone returned with a shy-looking youngling. The girl immediately wrapped her arms around the towering queen's leg. Harlan took a close look, feeling confused. The child was short and skinny,  with verdant green skin. On her head, a series of mobile tendrils moved and quivered. If Harlan remembered correctly, the youngling was of the Ho'Din species.

"Harlan, this is Oojee. I want you to take her with you. We recently recovered Oojee on the planet Lothal. Her community were attached and all were either slaughtered or carried off.

Harlan's eyes widened in concern. "Um, I don't understand."

Devi twitched and lowered her voice. "She was at the Lothal Jedi temple. I need you to get her back to her people."

"I don't know what you're talking about... we don't... I mean, they don't have a Jedi temple on Lothal..."

Now it was Devi's turn to look confused. It was not how either of them had expected Life Day gift exchange to go.

"Harlan, I know you have contacts with the Jedi. You have to get Oojee to safety - my hive cannot protect her from dark siders forever. She needs to be safe - and you're my only possible contact. Please..."

The relic hunter puffed out her cheeks. "Alright, Devi, I'll see what I can do. Come with me, Oojee." Harlan took the girl by the hand and hurried back to her own ship. The faster this favour was complete, the better.

I've always been a fan of the Ho'Din species, and I think this alien head does a decent job of representing them in LEGO form. Here is a clean shot of the ship's interior - I had fun trying two different floor designs. I've also added the link to the #buildtogive post on instagram.

Thanks for looking!

Wonderful build! The queen is a worthy ally, that's plain to see.

Heheh. It's true. Lothal does not, in fact, have a Jedi temple. 😛

I'm getting more of a classic space vibe here than SW. That big bug-lady is extremely well done! Nice! I'm struggling a little bit to place this scene on Mustafar - seems like a little stretch 😉

@darth-bjorn thanks! I drew inspiration for the big big from one of Ryan’s earlier works for the Unknown Regions, so partial credit to him.

That’s the beauty of ships, they can fly to different systems 😉

@darth-bjorn we're still not sure who those guys were! Jedi cousins, maybe? Either way, their deaths are an indignity we are outraged about
