It was early in the morning, still barely light, even up on the stony side of the Grandmother. Lynus had given every student assigned to the fields a few tools, a few pointers, warned them not to trample anything already planted if they didn't want to starve, and finally sent them gruffly down to work. And it was, very much so, work.

The student wiped his forehead and stretched his aching back. He glared down at the unplanted seeds still filling the bucket at his feet. There was dirt under his fingernails, and his boots felt uncomfortably soggy.

"Lot of farming in being a Jedi," the student groaned. "More than I thought there'd be."

Ma-Riki, on the other hand, looked very pleased to be down in the dirt, rather than up on the mountain. The Lannik shaman turned a keen eye on the student, and a smile stretched across her wizened face.

"No better teacher than farming for learning to be a Jedi!"

The initiate pulled a skeptical look. "You have to be kidding."

"Not kidding, not one bit!" She cackled. she leaned down, running her fingers through the soil. The laugh faded away, replaced by contemplation. "Farming'll seep into your soul, if ya let it. Farming, now, farming teaches patience! How to be at peace when things are out of your control. Teaches diligence, hard work, and resourcefulness when things ARE in your control.

Teaches respect for a place. For all its surprises, its pride . . . its cooperations . . . its betrayals," she grinned wickedly. "The land owes you nothing. But since you chose to live on it, to benefit from its gifts, YOU owe much to the land. Isn't this the way of the Jedi, hm?"

The initiate stared.

"Besides!" She chirped. "Everybody's got to eat!"

Lesson II: Knowledge

Please read chapter on Lesson II: Knowledge in the The Jedi Path. Accompanying notes from Jedi Instructors follow.

Jedi Knight Nokori Imani -

"It is hard to read about the archives as they once stood. Our order, small and new as it is, has so little collected knowledge compared to the Order of old. That loss is worth mourning, but there is nothing to fear in a lack of knowledge. You will often be the least knowledgeable one in the room. That's good. Ask questions, be curious, and don't be insufferable. Gratitude is an important trait to develop alongside curiosity.

There IS an advantage to losing the old archives. Knowledge, without wisdom, can create arrogance. It inflates one's sense of self, it can create Certainty, which is dangerous if you should not be as certain as you are. Master Bowspritz mentions that as a Padawan he was able to make vast improvements to temple records on the Jodakan needler crab. Had he not, those outdated records may still have stood as 'fact'. That is worth learning from.

The galaxy is mysterious; there is always more we do not know. Every person you will meet knows something you do not, and you can learn from all of them.

We could spend all of our time here studying Ator Hollos itself. Its diverse and seemingly unnatural ecosystem, its flora, fauna, and its connections to the Force are priorities for our work and attention. This place is special. Our being here is a gift! (I hope not a deadly one.)

I have not spent as much time traveling the galaxy as Asa, so I asked him to share on that instead."

Asa Imani, Enclave Quartermaster -

"Well, Master Sunburris' read on things is bit outdated—I mean, no one who'd been to Kinyen would say the expansion region is nothing but factory worlds, right? Place is great. And I know each of you have a little experience with the galaxy already—perk of not only trainin' kids. One of many!

They had all kinds of Jedi outposts back then. You're all so spread out now, all that's really out there is Yavin IV, and Lothal. Here's hoping we add this one to the list.

We're stranded out here in the Kathol Rift until me and the Jawas can get something cooked up. Hopefully you'll see other worlds sooner than later. You're welcome to help out with that, if machines are your thing."

Ma-Riki, Shaman -

"Jedi don't know everything! Not even close! Hehehe. Why do you think young Skywalker asked me to come along? My good looks? No, no, no. Perspective. That's right, perspective. The Force isn't just one thing. The Jedi aren't the only ones who see it! Every people has felt the Force. Different names, different names. Not to say the Jedi are wrong, no, no. Though, maybe! But no, just that knowing isn't always as simple as you might think! I'm not here to teach you my magic (not that you'd be able to do it, anyway!) just to remind you lot that there's more to the Force than just Jedi!

Now listen up, young ones! Every planet's plants and beasts are reflections, but this wackadoo place takes it to a whole nother level! I can always feel the spirit of a place, but it's never as bright as it is here. This place is loud! Wants to be heard, I think. Wants to be seen. Maybe it wants help. Let's watch, and dig, and listen, and watch some more, and see what we find out, shall we? Now go out and collect some samples! Draw some beasts! Let's get to learning."

Lynus Fendri, Groundskeeper -

"Well, now, I'm not sure I'm, er, qualified to talk to Jedi. Even younglings. Er, initiates. I don't know much about the Force. Spent all my time learning about the people who, eh, follow it, never could feel the thing myself. I like to think my own way of, er, interacting with it is out in the fields, and the woods, and back here, cooped up, looking through old books. Why old books? Because, well, history is, eh, important. It is. There's a lot to learn there. Lots to watch out for. You'll see what I mean when you've done some reading on your own. Like I said, not sure I know enough to help anyone. But I'm . . . glad to do what I can. If you think it'll be useful, that is. Right now, let's start simple, and just focus on how NOT to ruin the soil, how about that?"

Ma-Riki is just such a good character!  Makes me think a lot of Yoda in ESB.

Really cool nature build, I also love how you always go the extra mile and write a long, interesting story for your builds! That really brings your builds to the next level.
