Receiving arms as alms

Numed Sinoos, mining leader and reluctant planetary representative, returned to Montitia with three things from the Republic summit on Chandrila. First was a renewed distaste for politics. Sitting in the same room as Mining Guild representatives while they pontificated about the economic and social benefits of their corporation had nearly driven him to violence.

Thankfully he wasn’t the only one who soured on that pitch. After he’d spoken passionately about the plight of independent miners like his own people, several sympathetic buyers approached him to offer support. Together, they’d negotiated contracts to supply nova-crystals that would give much needed income and time for the Montitians to pay off some of their loans. These contracts were the second thing he’d brought home and if he’d stopped there, the trip probably would have been worthwhile on balance.

The third thing, however, made the trip very profitable: munitions! Several other planetary representatives from the Free Colonies gifted retired weapons from their own forces. Sure, the blaster rifles were used and had some faults, but it would enable his people to very directly resist Mining Guild goons that were extorting them. As soon as he arrived home, Sinoos arranged for the weapons to be delivered to all the major mines still operating.
