Vardos had once been an imperial fortress world, but Operation Cinder brought years of glory, wealth and order to a sudden end. Satellites were used to destroy every spark of life on the surface of the planet and the world was almost entirely depopulated. Years after Operation Cinder merchants of the underworld and all kinds of scum considered Vardos a perfect shadowport in the core. The vast majority of the cities were rebuilt by local spice gangs which changed the architecture a lot, but the ruins of the capital remained untouched. After years of tolerating the flourishing crime the Imperial Consortium decided that the time had come to reestablish the imperial order on Vardos.
