"I wanted to wait for the squad leader to arrive," Lenric said from his chair at the end of the table, "but you now what? Let's get started, I can brief him afterwards."
The small team of engineering specialists had left Bannistar on the Vyrn and arrived at one of the Imperial outposts on Glom Tho, to rendezvous with the squad of soldiers who would come along for the mission. "We are going into an old confederate foundry," Lenric continued "where the production of a new type of vulture droid was halted, at the end of the clone wars."
"So we are getting intel?" Cera asked, "Schematics." Lenric affirmed, "the Schematics for the Geometry Self-Propelled Battle Droid, Mark III, should still remain somewhere in the foundry that produced the chassis for the droids." Minster nodded, "And that foundry is here on Glom Tho."
Lenric smiled, "Hokk and Orec will stay on the ship, but I need the two of you along with me, I am sure there will be terminals to slice," Lenric looked at Cera who nodded back at him, "and Minster, you know more about the confederates than any of us, that should also be useful."
As Viah stepped on board the Decimator she clearly felt giddy, she never thought she would be piloting a VT-49, and she could not hide how happy she felt boarding the ship. Ric was less enthusiastic, but as soon as the recruitment officer had shown Viah the vessel she was convinced, and where Viah went, Ric would go.
It was difficult, being thrown back into service like this. He could feel his training kicking back in, but it was different now. He had done terrible things, to the detriment of the few caught in his path, but for the greater good. What was he doing now? And who was he doing it for?.. Viah, was the answer his mind presented, but it didn't make much sense to him.
"Let's go to the bridge," he said, casting his doubts and the questions aside, "We should meet your co-pilot."
"So this is where you are hiding!" Hokk exclaimed, "Don't you want to hear the briefing?" Orec shook his head, "My place is in the engine room, I don't care where the ship is going." It was old loyalty resurfacing, when his clan had devoted themselves to the Empire, the empire had housed them in engine rooms across their many vessels. Hokk was surprised, "There are plenty of bunks."
Orec shook his head, it was learned behavior but it felt strangely safe to him, "I will sleep in the engine room. I have spoken." Hokk knew that Orec would not be persuaded, "I will claim one of the Bunks right across the hall." He said, "let's get a caf, and then we can familiarize ourselves with our new home."
The Vyrn had once served as a safari cruise ship for Imperial VIPs visiting Kalarba. Much of the military equipment and interior was stripped out to make it comfortable for the elite of Imperial society, but with bunk beds installed, and a few adjustments to the equipment, the Vyrn has become fit for duty once more. This vehicle was selected by Major Alcyon to be the home of the Kalarban Automation Division for now.
