“These troopers never appreciate generosity from their superiors, normally I would never tolerate such breaking of protocol. If the situation were any different I’d have him disciplined for breaking uniform.”

TK-1209 feigned sleep, no point in arguing with superiors, especially in this heat.

“Those posh navy officers in their clean, cool, star destroyers always make us army men do the hard jobs; navy wouldn’t last a rotation down here, pftt.”

TK-1209 was amused; “everyone has their rivalries” he thought. He tried to drown out the captain and his hushed complaining; focusing on the blowing sand and the gentle hum of the oscillating fan mounted atop the sand pitted GNK power droid.

They were camped on the outskirts of a small village deep in the canyon deserts of Zonju V. There was not enough room in the village for proper lodging but the villagers had been generous enough (or scared enough) to lend them a battered Gonk droid to power what remained of their equipment. The landspeeder had died about 2 klicks back and they had to lug the radio equipment to the village by hand. With enough luck the fleet would pick up their signal and send a rescue party, but until then it was just a matter of waiting in heat, and the sand. Lots of sand.
