Kel shuffled behind his control panel as the light denoting floor numbers changed above the lift. The Bridge looked deserted, if you could not see the feet of hiding pirates poking out from underneath the control panels.

”Capn goes down with the ship!” A woman draped in a dusty coat cried, pointing her pistol at the elevator.

The plasma fizzled out directly on the wall behind the intruder’s, with the captain being cut down in a flurry of blade strikes. Kel clung tight to his satchel as the crew began to fire round upon round upon round at the elevator. Using the gunfire as cover, he slid under the control panel and crouched beside the edge of the blast door. 

As the vapour cleared, a narrow thin figure emerged with a piercing red helmet. Dragging a double edged vibroblade toward the first mate, the intruder held him by the neck.

”all we want is the map.” Her helmet crackled. “We know you found it on Kowak. Which one of you scum stole it?”

There was no reply from the first mate. Before he even drew his final breath, the woman plunged her blade through the pirates stomach, spun around at Kel. He dived into the elevator shaft and locked the door, hearing as her blade scratched the metal…
