The bustling noise of the street blended smoothly with the chatter of the bar.
He could barely hear Veezu’s prattle over the noise. He nodded absentmindedly, not really paying attention to what his friend was talking about. He lifted his cup to his mouth, downing its contents.
“Kars! Are you even listening?!”
Veezu had yelled that right in his ear, forcing Kars to turn to his friend.
“Of course I’m listening…” Kars responded hesitantly.
“What was I talking about then?” Veezu asked with a deadpan look.
Before Kars’ lie could be exposed, a blaster shot rang out in the air, silencing the street. The hustle and bustle of the evening came to a standstill as the citizens of Circumtore readied themselves for what came next.
“The Hutt’s Treasure! Jabba The Hutt’s Treasure! Prove your prowess and claim his wealth! Head this call and prove your worth. The Hutt cartel will raise you up as an ally! A seat of power is all yours! Take my words to the edges of the galaxy and claim this prize. The treasure is real!”
It was a loud voice that rang out, and from the thickness of the crowd it was hard to pinpoint who spoke. Shortly after the speech ended the crowds began moving again, the flow returning to its natural state.
“What…” Kars whispered to himself.
“Wizard! Did you hear that at least Kars?” Veezu grabbed his shoulder, shaking him lightly.
“Ye, I did. Do you think he was telling the truth?”
“I bet! I’ll check the holonet when we head home.” The alcohol on Veezu’s breath was all Kars could focus on.
Setting his own cup down and placing a few credits alongside it, Kars stood up and turned to Veezu.
“I think I’ll check as well. I’m calling it a night.”
“This could be our ticket off this damn hunk of metal! We could strike it rich!” Veezu responded excitedly.
Kars didn’t seem to be fully paying attention, again. He responded half-heartedly. “Ye, I ‘spose it could be.”
Above the busy street was a balcony. And on that balcony stood two figures. Its position as a vantage point allowed one to watch what had just transpired below. And that’s exactly what the figures had just done.
“It was a decent performance. But, I believe the message has been spread.” The first figure said.
“Of course Mam, we can’t give away too much. And it is unlikely this rabble will be the ones to prove themselves anyways.” The second responded.
“It’ll do, let us depart back to Nal Hutta. I would like to meet with my Lord in person.”
With that the figures retreated, their job on Circumtore done.
Just working on posting my older builds. This is one began in 2024, and was finished recently.
