Claze Dystarr rides an Iktotch Fury Beast named Kry’zachhitch (“Little Rumbler” for those who speak the Iktotch tongue). Most riders mock Claze for his choice of mount, and who could blame them! When the Little Rumbler waddles and lurches his way to the starting line, he looks like a pack animal and nothing like the lightning-fast racers next to him.

What Claze knows, and what many learn too late, is that few species in the galaxy can match a Fury Beast once it reaches a full gallop. The creature’s long top hump stores an astonishing reserve of caloric units, allowing it to maintain peak speed with almost no drop-off, even in the longest and most punishing derbies.

Those brave, or maybe foolish enough to try taming a Fury Beast also discover a unique restriction: they cannot be ridden in the traditional way. While Fury Beasts tolerate a harness secured to their sides, they will violently buck off anyone who attempts to mount their backs. As a result, all Fury Beast riders use a sidecar rig, an arrangement that comes with its own risks.
