The Diva Val Ruga Band was the hard-won rebirth of a voice nearly lost to history. Once among the most celebrated solo opera singers in the galaxy, Diva Val Ruga’s career was shattered by the Clone Wars and extinguished under the xenophobic rule of the Empire, which had little tolerance for her art—or her heritage. Refusing to fade into obscurity, she assembled a handpicked band-orchestra to reclaim her place on the stage, even if it meant performing in smoky cantinas and questionable venues to survive. At her side played Tella Vree, a female Sullustan virtuoso on the Bandfill Blow; Saelira Noss, a female Mon Calamari whose Fanfar Harp gave the ensemble its sweeping depth; and Krex Dolan, a male Rodian coaxing strange, pulsing rhythms from his Omnni Box. Supporting them were three distinctive voices: Mother Jhaani, a female Tholothian with a solemn, resonant tone; Brunn Talvek, a male Gran and well-known old crooner whose glory days still echoed in his voice; and Lyssa Veyn, a female Twi’lek whose clear soprano carried the hope that Val Ruga’s name might once again shine among the stars.

The Diva Val Ruga Band’s appearance at the Canto Bight Classic, also known as the Canto Melodica, marked a daring step back into the galactic spotlight. Performing before the galaxy’s elite in the opulent halls of Canto Bight, the band hoped the prestige of the contest would wash away years of obscurity and rumor. For Val Ruga, it was more than a competition—it was a chance to reclaim legitimacy, attract influential patrons, and remind the Core Worlds that her voice, and her orchestra, still belonged among the finest performers in the galaxy.
