Another season for the books! Spanning some two odd years, season 2 of Star Wars Factions saw a lot of growth for this community. Over a THOUSAND entries from dozens of players, and by extension thousands of hours of effort. First – one final look back.
Near the start, the game spread its wings to fly solo, moving over to a dedicated, independent website. Performance and graphical upgrades were certainly a welcome addition, but it also gave us a proper home.
Episodes I to III
Departing from a looser story structure of years past, players weaved through an epic trilogy reminiscent of the sagas George Lucas enthralled us with. Episode I: Voices of the Galaxy had Chandrila play host to a massive diplomatic summit, enjoying a tenuous peace after defeating the season 1 victors of the Imperial Triumvirate.
Episode II: The Fringe Wars broke that peace, with four systems under attack from seemingly unrelated aggressors. While decisively vanquishing the invaders, intelligence operatives from all sides started piecing together signs of a puppet master pulling the strings.
The third act, grandiose and protracted, was split into two parts. In the first part; Edge of the Oblivion, the UniStar Conglomerate revealed itself in strength, right on the heels of the sudden disappearance of champions, diplomates, and captains from every corner of the galaxy.
In the second part; Forgotten Suns raised the stakes to the brink, as the monstrous Scaoth horde declared its warpath, enthralling Unistar completely into its legions of slave soldiers. A brand-new enemy with a unique look, the horde became the common enemy of every player. A massive collaborative siege of their fortress world Ra’un concluded the main story of season 2.
The Crimson War
After the episode, players set their sights firmly on the Victory Objective, from which sprung various wars in the Core Regions. Prevailing against all others, the Crimson Empire triggered their final objective first, and began the Crimson War, marching towards the Core. In a ruthless contest of cunning and building prowess, aided by other imperial factions, they prevailed – winning the season.
Growing as a community, many players sharpened their skills and created some amazing builds. This has always been our greatest strength – through passion and feedback anyone can make amazing MOCs.
Thank you for playing, for all the builds, calls, discussions, memes, and stories told. It was an honor crafting this shared adventure, and we can only hope Season 3 will kick things into even higher gear.
