Stories | Sam (RocketBoy)
Hello! This page exists to collect all the stories I’ve published, from goofy one-offs to longer storylines, while a member of the SWFactions community.
Thank you for your interest! I hope I’ve made a few of these tales worth reading. You’ll have to let me know. (Or send me messages about wasting your time! All news is good news, they say.)
This may be the biggest, most cohesive storyline I’ve done so far (and my favorite). Nathan quits his job to chase the girl he loves, but finds a friendship he wasn’t expecting. There are also iconic planets and ghosts sometimes.
I | Severance Pay
Nathan Carda, a young safety inspector, quits his job to go looking for the woman he’s fallen in love with–an Imperial spy.
II | Murder!
Before Nathan can even get off-world he runs into another Imperial spy, and this one is not quite as charming as Mayla.
III | Diner Tables and Missed Connections
Nathan meets up with an unexpected contact to try to find transportation.
IV | The Manifest
Nathan’s first lead yields surprises, both good and bad.
V | The Temple Job
Nathan and Ozz travel to a dig site on Yavin IV, where a young stranger offers them aid.
VI | Submission and Death
Lt. Syfot travels to a dark world in search of a inhuman prophet.
VII | The Planet of Ghosts
On Ossus, Nathan and Ozz meet the Searchers, a ghostly spirit, and the Empire.
VIII | The Magic Tree
Nathan and Ozz find their spirits tested in the dark swamps of Dagobah.
IX | The House in the Ash Forest
Nathan strikes out alone into an ironwood forest, and nearly meets his death.
X | The Traitor
A traitor rescues one of Nathan and Ozz’s allies from the Empire.
XI | The Tomb World
Nathan and Ozz reach Korriban, where they hope to find Balaam’s Heart before the Empire. The planet, powerful with the dark side, comes for Nathan’s spirit.
XII | The Servant’s Heart
On Korriban, Nathan and Ozz come face-to-face with their foes.
XIII | Daughter of the Empire
Mayla’s past is explored.
After a chance encounter while taking a prisoner to his Hutt Masters, Weequay Enforcer Mato discovers there might be more to life than just Nal Hutta. But once he leaves, his past seems to present the biggest obstacle to his future happiness.
Mato’s story was the one that got me started on Factions. It was inspired by the billions of stories out there about people being redeemed by ‘the simple life’, and reading Wendell Berry talk about how agrarian communities can help and heal those who are apart of them. It’s kind of a lot of reflective farming stories. It’s not super exciting.
Mato I | A Death Sentence
On his way to the Hutts with a prisoner, Mato makes a choice.
Mato II | Fleeing the Stench
Mato follows through. He and Yigs escape.
Mato III | This Your First Time In Hyperspace?
Mato takes his first breath of air away from Nal Hutta. Granted, it’s inside a starship, but at least its not Nal Hutta.
Mato IV | Along Old Lanes
Mato and Yigs arrive on Wayland, where everything he sees is new and wonderful.
Mato V | No Soliciting (If You’re Techno Union)
Mato and Yigs are witness to a confrontation between the steward, Ko-Yode, and a representative of the Techno Union.
Mato VI | Fear Leads to Anger
Ko-Yode welcomes Mato into the Bur Wend community, but first, Mato has to die a spiritual death.
Mato VII | Learning the Trade
The Gungan Dinnie teaches Mato everything he’ll need to know about farm life. He learns a bit about himself, too.
Mato VIII | The Mountain Village, Bur Wend
Mato’s Life in Bur Wend, some months on.
The Battle of Fondor (Freedom Fighters #1)
My posts for Episode 6. These three go chronologically through the CFS Auxiliary Fleet intervening in Moff Pyerce’s attempted takeover of Fondor. The first is on the ground involving protestors and spec-ops CFS teams, the second is about the personnel onboard the Peace and Quiet, and then the finale focuses on the battle in space, both on the bridge with the eccentric Admiral Yima and in the fighters with three unlucky (or VERY lucky?) janitors.
I | The Sound in the Streets
Saboteurs aid the protestors against the Empire.
2 | The CFS Peace and Quiet
En-route to Fondor, the CFS flagship prepares for battle.
3 | Stumble Into Battle
The Battle of Fondor comes to a heroic conclusion.
The Perilous Tales!
This storyline is kind of an homage to the Adventurers theme, as well as Indiana Jones. But you know, Star Wars-ified.
The Travels of Professor Floon! Entry the First
(Not technically apart of the arc, but the intro post for the Professor. This one’s a bonus, I guess.)
1 | The Perilous Tales of Harnabus Clod, Professor Floon, and Kitsa Rigo!
Meet our heroes!
2 | Colonel Corbett, the Big Game Hunter
Meet the devious Colonel Corbett!
3 | Raiders of the Lost Jungle Planet
Jungles! Quicksand! Pirates!
4 | Torture, Love, and Civilized Conversation
Captured by pirates, the three heroes each have very different experiences in the enemy camp.
5 | Fight and Flight
Our heroes flee into the skies, but they’re pursued by the Pirates’ modified Hauler and a jury-rigged TIE fighter!
6 | The Great Beast of Imynusoph
The thrilling conclusion!
Across the Stars (Nathan & Ozz)
This may be the biggest, most cohesive storyline I’ve done so far (and my favorite). Nathan quits his job to chase the girl he loves, but finds a friendship he wasn’t expecting. There are also lots of iconic planets and also ghosts sometimes.

The Freedom Fighters on Ankus (Freedom Fighters #2)
These posts are all about the Freedom Fighters doing what they do best: helping the oppressed fight off their oppressors. Then they make friends with the Cragmaloids and live in harmony!
The Sage of Ankus
This post describes the struggle of the enslaved Cragmaloids of Ankus, and their reluctant request to the Freedom Fighters for help.
Unwinding
The Follower village of Pathabigani watches the dramatic outcome of a game of sabaac. Meet some of the Followers of the Force who have moved to Ankus!
Intrigue on Iridonia
This mini-arc was inspired by F-Zero and Shakespeare. So, y’know.
Sometimes I leave stories unfinished both out of practicality, and to suggest there’s always something going on in the galaxy, even if we aren’t seeing it. But that sounds pretty lame after I just said it’s because I’m lazy. I swear it’s both.
A Day at the Swoop Races
Swoop racing is a huge deal on Iridonia.
Intrigue on Iridonia
Young diplomat Lan Honn meets with the rascal Dak Sirah, a spy for the side of peace. The talks aren’t going well.
The Rampart Station Incident
These two tell the story (one as a report, one following someone on board) of a terrible situation on a space station. Both were made for the horror LTC.
Tragedy on Ilum (Freedom Fighters #3)
Considering that Ilum eventually becomes Starkiller Base, I knew that a story set on the planet would have to end badly for the good guys. That in mind, I decided to give some of the Freedom Fighter characters that originated in the Fondor and Ankus arcs a dark war story, something actually grim and tragic (but hopeful in the end).
This arc is about the Freedom Fighters facing off against an Imperial Remnant and their massive, mysterious trench.
1 | The Thaw
The Freedom Fighters have come to Ilum to protect a surge of pilgrims. Commandos strike at the Empire from a hidden base.
2 | Glacier Home
Back at the temple, we check in with the eclectic Admiral Yima and Bey’wan Pw’tua. A briefing lays out of the future of the FF involvement on Ilum.
3 | Visions of Horrors
Morale in the temple suffers every day. A pilgrim receives a dark vision.
4 | Attack on the Imperial Trench
Disturbed by the implications of the vision, unrest grows among the fighters.
5 | Labyrinth of Evil
The commandos search for the secret of the Imperial installation.
6 | Silence
Admiral Yima reckons with all that has happened.
Once More Into the Breach (Freedom Fighters #4)
One Offs
Captain Pheonix and the Nefarious Doctor
Some Buck Rogers, Spaceman Spiff-esque retro sci-fi.
Mathfful is a Wookie Mandalorian
Just kind of a goofy character bio.
Searchers on Ossus
The first appearance of the Searchers, who have since become kind of canonized into the Followers of the Force.
Colonists & Farmers
Diplomats & Merchants
Both of these are figbarfs, but with some in-depth character descriptions I might use later.
The Raid
The Mandalorians of Clan Eldar get revenge against the Empire, enacting a daring raid on a cargo fleet.
Wreckage on the Violent Violet Wastelands
A full, start-to-finish story inspired by Mad Max kookiness.
Exploring Mon Cala
PROBE UNIT “HUTCH” EMERGENCY BURST FEED
Mission: Explore System Sector U6 for Artifact Signatures
Caution: Unknown Environment. Caution is key.
Markets on the Jungle Moon
In one of Yavin’s colonies, a new day begins. Yee-chee, seller of antiquities (and fish) opens his stall for the day. A lookout stationed on a tower drinks a bit too much caf.
Life Watching Mortis
Famous band Gran Pree gets VERY lost on the way to a gig and wind up hanging out with a monk at the edge of the galaxy.
Aargau
The Vengeful Spirit
Banking in the IBC Arcology
Both set on the banking world of Aargau, sort of contrasting the wealthy and poor.
This arc, inspired by Master and Commander, is my entrance into story-telling from the Imperial perspective. An honorable-but-flawed Captain recruits his friend, a cynical civilian doctor, to join him on a military campaign for the Pentastar Alignment.
1 | Old Friends, Once Foes
Tomas Harlan returns to Dantooine, looking for his friend. A set of flashbacks presents their first meetings.
