It had been over two months since the Gyndine Crisis began, and the city had only tightened under the strain. Governor Essada continued to funnel more stormtroopers into the streets, insisting it was necessary to “maintain order,” though everyone could see the opposite happening. Each new deployment only escalated the violence. Many of the locals had taken up the mantle of freedom fighters, but even they knew that resolve alone wouldn’t be enough. Not when the New Republic’s forces were already stretched thin on Reytha, desperately trying to protect the Expansion Region’s food supply from Imperial sabotage.
That was why Phoenix Squadron moved quietly through Gyndine’s narrow alleys and high vantage points. Their orders were twofold: assess whether the city was on the brink of a full-scale collapse and uncover the truth behind rumors of a hidden Coaxium depot buried somewhere beneath the capital. From their concealed positions, they watched stormtroopers lock shields at the fence line, listened to the shouts of a population pushed past its limits, and calculated how quickly this fragile standoff could ignite. If the Imperials truly were hiding Coaxium under the city, then the unrest outside was not just a crisis, it was camouflage. Phoenix Squadron knew that whatever they found in these streets would determine not just Gyndine’s fate, but the direction the entire sector would tilt next.
