Besides cutting the trees down for exporting lumber, workers on Ikkrukk also managed to find other uses for the native foliage. Long ago it was discovered that the sap was useful for many things. If collected from near the top of the tree, it was bitter from the long climb up the "veins" of the tree. The locals used this bitter sap to brew a strong liquor.
