A Hutt's Favor Never Dies

After Jabba the Hutt’s death, ARGO sought to preserve its interests on Tatooine through the only power willing to listen: Bib Fortuna. ARGO’s presence on the planet had always been deliberately quiet, operating through subsidiaries involved in mining, trade, and the harvesting of desert megafauna—primarily the lucrative practice of sand whaling.

In a secluded safehouse, Veyran Lux, a senior Zeltron representative of ARGO, laid out the arrangement. Bib would receive compensation and continued support, while ARGO’s operations would remain undisturbed. Bib demanded more, but beneath his greed was a more pressing concern. Jabba had dealt with ARGO before, and Bib had no idea what obligations, promises or protections might have been buried in those dealings. It was safer to honor whatever arrangement his predecessor had made than discover the consequences of breaking it.

There was an old saying in the Outer Rim:

“A Hutt’s favor never dies.”

Usually, it was said with a smirk. A Hutt's favors were rarely favors at all—they were debts, bargains and threats that could outlive the Hutt who made them.

The negotiation eventually concluded with a shipment arriving under cover of darkness. A small droid speeder rolled down the ramp carrying three Imperial-issue boxes packed with valuable ingots, accompanied by two camtonos filled with credits. Bib watched as the payment was unloaded, his satisfaction growing with every crate.

Veyran joined him at the edge of the ramp, looking out across the dark dunes.

“Trade will return. The routes will reopen. Credits will flow again. You can either stand at the crossroads—or watch from the dunes.”

Bib said nothing.

Veyran knew better than to mistake the arrangement for permanence. He didn't believe Bib would remain in power for long. But that wasn't the point. For as long as Bib held Tatooine, ARGO had an ally in the right place—and ARGO could continue operating unchecked.

The old arrangement had survived Jabba's death.

Perhaps that was what the old saying meant after all.
