Even by the low standards of gladiators, Jarek has a murky background. Some say he was a Royal Guard of Palpatine, subjected to hideous Sith torture and the loss of his legs for an operational failure that displeased the Emperor. Others say he killed a Royal Guard and took the helmet from him, but only after a vicious battle. All we know for sure is that his command of a souped-up vibroblade, combined with the speed and striking power of his mechanical tri-legs, make him a fearsome contender in bouts across the Outer Rim.
