FLAME OF ZHAR TECHNICAL DOSSIER

  • ASSET DESIGNATION: Modified RZ-1 A-wing Interceptor
  • STATUS: Operational
  • ORIGIN: Recovered on Reytha during the Gyndine Crisis
  • TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
    • VESSEL CLASS: Interceptor
    • MANUFACTURER: Kuat Systems Engineering (Extensively Modified by Flame of Zhar Engineering Crews)
    • CREW COMPLEMENT: One Pilot
    • ROLE: High-Speed Interceptor / Pursuit Craft / Precision Strike Fighter
  • Propulsion Systems: Twin Novaldex J-88 "Event Horizon II" Experimental Sublight Engines, MerenData "Cometfire" Sprint Thruster
    • Replacing the original J-77 powerplants, the J-88 Event Horizon II drives represent an experimental evolution of the venerable "Event Horizon" series. Developed for advanced New Republic interceptor programs, the engines deliver substantially greater thrust output at the expense of increased thermal load, fuel consumption, and maintenance requirements. Their installation has transformed the fighter into a machine that routinely operates beyond the design tolerances of a standard RZ-1 airframe.
    • Mounted directly aft of the cockpit assembly, the Cometfire Sprint Thruster was originally designed for the illegal racing circuits of the Outer Rim. The cylindrical booster unit provides immense bursts of supplementary acceleration during pursuit operations and high-risk evasive maneuvers, granting the craft performance characteristics few conventional military fighters can rival. Extended use is not recommended outside of emergencies- or for pilots possessing a healthy disregard for self-preservation.
    • Maximum Acceleration: 6,200 G (approximately 18% above standard RZ-1 specifications)
  • Armament Systems: Dual Borstel RG-9 Laser Cannons, Dymek HM-5/HM-6 Concussion Missile Launchers
    • The interceptor retains its twin Borstel RG-9 laser cannons, mounted along the forward hull. Renowned for their reliability and exceptional accuracy, the weapons provide devastating firepower against hostile starfighters while preserving the rapid engagement profile expected of an A-wing platform.
    • A paired missile system capable of deploying standard concussion ordnance, the HM-series launchers provide the craft with significant anti-ship and strike capabilities. Though limited in ammunition capacity, the launchers allow the interceptor to threaten targets far larger than itself, making it equally suited to precision attacks and hit-and-run operations.

The Gyndine Crisis proved lucrative for the Flame of Zhar in more ways than one. By aligning themselves with the New Republic during the campaign against the Imperial Remnant, the syndicate found ample opportunity to acquire matériel, surplus equipment, and abandoned military assets amid the confusion of war.

One such prize was discovered on the agri-world of Reytha, where Ryla Tesh located the wreckage of a downed RZ-1 A-wing interceptor and coordinated its extraction. Though the fighter had suffered extensive damage, enough of the frame remained intact to justify a complete rebuild.

Replacement components for aging Rebel-era craft are notoriously difficult to source, and the resulting restoration bears the marks of countless improvised repairs and hard-earned craftsmanship. The hull carries the scars of its previous life, but the Flame's engineers devoted their efforts where they mattered most: armament, power systems, and speed.

The interceptor's original Novaldex J-77 Event Horizon sublight engines were deemed unsalvageable. In their place, mechanics installed a pair of Novaldex J-88 Event Horizon II experimental drives- an advanced successor platform intended for New Republic interceptor trials. Official inquiries by New Republic Intelligence suggest that the prototype engines may have "fallen from a cargo transport" while en route to a secure testing facility, though no further evidence has ever surfaced to substantiate the claim.

The upgraded powerplants grant the craft blistering acceleration even by A-wing standards, albeit at the cost of increased maintenance demands, higher thermal output, and a tendency to push the airframe to its structural limits during prolonged overburn maneuvers.

Further modifications include the installation of a MerenData Cometfire Sprint Thruster mounted directly aft of the cockpit assembly. Originally developed for the notoriously dangerous and illegal racing circuits of the Outer Rim, the cylindrical booster unit provides short bursts of extraordinary thrust, allowing the interceptor to achieve velocities few military craft can hope to match. Pilots familiar with the system describe engaging the Cometfire as less akin to flying and instead similar to "being fired from a turbolaser."

The end result is a machine that embodies the philosophy of the Flame itself: rough around the edges, built from opportunism and scavenged fortune, yet lethally effective when unleashed. Though its patched hull and mismatched components betray its origins, the modified A-wing remains among the fastest vessels in the sector- a temperamental thoroughbred held together by expert hands, audacity, and just enough luck to keep its pilot alive.
