It was nearing the end of the shift for sergeant Leil Kastor. He’d been running a traffic checkpoint with one of the new guys from District 73. He was a young man named Jax or something like that, Leil couldn’t be bothered to remember. It didn’t really matter anyway, he was exactly the same as the other young cops Leil had seen over the years, naive and idealistic. Like all the rest he’d soon learn what his role in Tirac Munda’s society actually entailed, Leil was sure of that.
In the distance the sound of a speeder could be heard approaching somewhere around the bend. It wasn’t the sharp, constant whine it should have been, rather it was a more ragged sound that varied in pitch and volume. It was probably another old junker from the Rodian block, Leil thought. His theory was confirmed moments later, as the speeder rounded the corner towards the checkpoint. The driver was indeed Rodian, and the speeder was certainly not new. It slowed to a stop at the checkpoint, both the driver and his human passenger looking slightly distressed at the sight of two law enforcement officers.
“Alright, you know the drill. Identification please,” Leil requested.
“Ah yes, they s-should be around here,” the Rodian stuttered, rummaging around for an identification card he certainly didn’t possess.
“Perhaps this will suffice,” the human said, leaning out and presenting a small stack of Republic credits.
It was at this point that the younger officer cut in. “Is that a bribe?” he asked, pulling Liel aside. “You know you can’t accept that.”
Leil shook his head and turned back towards the speeder.
“The kid has a point. Double it or we’re impounding your vehicle.”
Had lots of fun with the story for this one. Leil is truly the least corrupt officer in the Tirac Munda security force.
