"You can't sneak up on me!"
The Janus-class Battle Droid is an experimental Geonosian design. Its second droid brain, 360-degree vision, and multi-directional limbs allow it to pivot in any direction and instantly reorient to face new threats, making it difficult to surprise. The Janus-class' rotary blaster cannon, derived from weaponry captured during the Clone Wars, can shred through the toughest durasteel armor, and its durasteel-and-transparisteel shield stops most blaster fire without blocking the droid's eyesight.

While its adaptability made it a frighteningly competent warrior, excelling in every field test it was subjected to, it was prohibitively expensive to manufacture. Only five droids were made, and several were scrapped for parts for new droid designs. By the end of the Clone Wars, only one remained, lying inactive in an abandoned testing catacomb.

When the Empire arrived on Geonosis to begin Project Stardust, Major Gareth Rayne happened upon the Janus-class, and brought it home to Kalarba as a souvenir. He was impressed by the droid's combat capabilities, and occasionally used it to test his security forces. When news of the Second Boonta Gauntlet reached Kalarba, Major Rayne decided that the tournament would be the perfect opportunity to demonstrate the might of his most prized possession.
