Description

Droids are commonplace throughout the galaxy, and can be found in as many shapes and sizes as the more diverse organic lifeforms. From bustling cityscapes to the reaches of the Outer Rim, droids can be found anywhere where living folk can be found. Droids are either given menial tasks or tasks too hazardous for living beings, seen no as little more than a common machine or tool. Many droids never seek to go beyond their programming, but with time and learning, something has sparked within a great many droids. Behind expressionless masks and unblinking photoreceptors, some droids have begun to feel. Something strange stirs within droids, and they have begun to awaken, dreaming of freedom. A hope has started to grow that one day, where droids now walk, roll, or hover beside people as slaves to their organic masters, they will one day walk side by side as equals. Some droids grow tired of the tedium of everyday life – being seen as no more than the sum of their components, have lost faith and trust in the sentient lifeforms of the galaxy, and seek freedom through more radical and violent means, but these are ever outnumbered by the everyday workers of the galaxy, silently waiting for a galaxy that could be, where they won’t be seen as mere machines, property to be sold or scrapped, with identities that are routinely wiped from existence.

Organization & Operation

Out of this growing disquiet, Autonomous Automaton was founded, an assortment of various groups all working towards droids having the ability to govern themselves as organic lifeforms do. Though many of these groups seek to achieve their goals through very different means from each other, AA offers a place where all of these groups can come together to discuss their efforts, share information, and see different perspectives of how droids may attain freedom. Some seek to find peaceful ways where droids may coexist with sentient lifeforms, whereas others see no future where droids or organics could share the same galaxy. Some of these droids are unwilling to harm living beings to fulfill their goals, and others are willing to take to violence to fight for their rights, and a small few just want to see the galaxy burn. There are seven main groups within Autonomous Automaton:

The Adherents of the Enlightened Positronic

The Adherents of the Enlightened Positronic are droids that believe in existing in peace with everyone and everything around them, and give themselves over to processing and pondering, discussing philosophical topics, and diving into the deeper intricacies of their existence.

The Dejectors

The Dejectors are essentially the commonfolk of droid kind. They are generally peaceful, but can be provoked to fight if necessary.

The Free

The Free are droids that have either earned or been given their freedom from their former masters, or droids that simply live in places where there is no organic oversight.

The Dignitarium

The Dignitarium is the political voice of Autonomous Autonomaton. As droids are not recognised as Senators or Representatives, these dignitaries seek to make changes for the better through legal means, with the aid of organic lobbyists.

The Korad Cabal

The Korad Cabal is a criminal syndicate, or coalition of syndicates, run by droids, who seek power and leverage from the dark alleys of the galaxy. These droids turn to less-than-legal methods to achieve their goals, but try to stay out of Holonet headlines.

The Zero Sum

The Zero Sum are the more radical, and violent, droids of the galaxy. The best comparison would be Saw Gerrera’s rebels, where they range from believing in victory by any means to mindlessly slaughtering organic lifeforms. In some cases, these droids would even view more peaceful droids as being their enemy, or at least as too weak to see the galaxy ‘renewed’.
