Description

“But one fact has always remained constant: The Chiss must be approached from a position of strength and respect. One must have strength, for the Chiss will deal only with those capable of keeping their promises. One must have respect, for the Chiss must believe that those promises will be kept.”

Passage from Mitth’raw’nuruodo’s journal

The Chiss Ascendancy sits apart from the lesser galaxy, surrounded by the Chaos – an unchartable, disastrous space isolating and hiding the Chiss people. The Ascendancy is oligarchy, presided over by the Nine Ruling Families who make up the Syndicure.

Though formidable, the Chiss have chosen not to expand as an empire or conquer its few neighbors. To be welcoming towards the Chiss means you will never have to fear them, but an act of aggression will mean your complete destruction.

Chiss Expansionary Defense Fleet

Chiss warriors are renowned across the Chaos. Concept art is scarce, so the Ascendancy needs you to help flesh it out. Standards below will be updated as new material develops.

Flag Rank Officers – stripped of family affiliation – white uniforms – Commodore/General/Admiral

CEDF Officers – black uniforms – Lieutenant/Commander/Captain

Warriors – black uniforms

Family Fleets – planetary defense fleets were commanded and maintained by the Great and Ruling Families. Designs varied by family. Main requirements is green/blue data screens, heavy dorsal armaments, smaller than Star Destroyers, and lots of curves.

Chiss Minifigure Suggestions

Chiss Minifigure Requirements

51629381459_ffa31d6df3_b.jpg

You are not required to have a Chiss sig-fig to be a part of this Faction. However, if you choose to represent the Chiss, please follow the guidelines below.

Skin – Dark azure preferred. medium blue, medium azure, bright light blue. Hands may be blue, medium azure, medium blue, bright light blue or sand blue.

Dark Azure heads are limited…. https://www.bricklink.com/catalogList.asp?catID=238&catXrefLevel=0&colorPart=153&catType=P

You also may use the Genie or Mr. Freeze Medium Blue heads, Medium Azure Genie head, Bright Light Blue heads, and sand blue heads. (As more minifigures become available, we’re happy to adjust our requirements).

Eyes – Red is preferred when possible. One trick I’ve found is using a 16g blunt tip needle to poke out red stickers for eyes (see figbarfs above).

Hair – Dark blue preferred. Black is okay. Other colors should be used on a limited basis and with reason.

Clothing – (optional for any character created by Pombe) See minifigure templates, but no strict requirements. The Death Star and FO crew uniforms should work well for the EDF officers and Warriors. Flag Officers should have white uniforms, and as long as not defined by canon, we can be flexible with the styles. Buttons and zippers should be avoided.

See the post below for non-Chiss character standards as well. The Chaos is diversely populated by what the Chiss consider lesser species.

Rematching (Joining the Chiss Ascendancy)

Merit-Adoptives – To join the Chiss Ascendency, PM or DM goatman461 with a link to your Flickr or Bricksafe account. Other social media accounts can be sent, but you’ll need a Flickr or Bricksafe account to join (it’s free and easy).

M-As may build within the Chiss Ascendancy, fleshing out Chiss architecture and ship design. See options below for acceptable ways to interpret Chiss characters. Some aliens may be shown within the Chiss Ascendancy with prior approval from your Syndicure.

Trial Born – Once you’ve earned 25 IP for the Chiss Ascendancy, you will be accepted as a Trial Born and may join operations alongside the Chiss Expansionary Defense Fleet. This will include building outside of the Chiss home-worlds and building for other factions, however you may not use a Chiss character outside of the Unknown Region.

Ranking Distant, Cousin, and Blood – These rankings will allow you to take part in operations throughout the galaxy, sometimes earning IP for other Factions. You will also take part in strategic planning, story development, and diplomacy. Chiss Ascendancy members at these ranks may use Chiss characters outside of the Unknown Regions.

  • Ranking Distant – has achieved a raw score of 10xp on any Factions build
  • Cousin – has achieved a raw score of 20xp on any Factions build
  • Blood – has gained 30ip on a single Factions build (bonuses allowed)

Your builds may include Chiss characters from any rank, family, and house. The ranking above is merely a structure to help organize the faction and maintain an appropriate, canonical aesthetic. The Chiss naming convention requires a House name – core name – role, with apostrophes thrown somewhere in the middle. For example, Thrawn’s name is Mitth’raw’nuruodo. [family name – Mitth]'[core name – raw]'[military role – nuruodo].

Chiss Families (to help you create your characters)

Ruling Families (available to Merit-Adoptives but not required)-

Boadil, Chaf, Clarr, Dasklo, Irizi, Mitth, Obbic, Plikh, Ufsa

There are 9 Ruling Families, 40 Great Families, and many further down. Chiss family diplomacy is extremely complex. The Mitth and Irizi tend to hold the most power, but only through intricate alliances and personal relationships with other ruling families, as well as support from tangled webs of lesser families.

Only Ruling Families are allowed to maintain warships apart from the EDF.

Chiss Roles (& House Color)

The Chiss have a highly specialized society. As you develop your characters, consider the roles below.

Chaf – diplomatic and foreign affairs (yellow)

Blood – goatman461

(Iriz’iliac’sapla)

Ziliac showed great promise as a cadet but chose a career in colonial affairs instead. Being a blood-born member of one of the Ascendancy’s most powerful (and militaristic) families gave Ziliac the resources and clout to make his own path but saddled him with the expectations he could not fulfill for his family.

Many saw the might of the CEDF and family controlled planetary defenses as the strength of the Ascendancy that would protect their people from any dangers. But Ziliac saw something else. The people were only as strong when they were fed. Their weapons only fired when loaded. Their shields only held when they were powered – and not overpowered by some new technology. The Chiss could not blast Csilla’s sun to levels that would thaw their homeworld, but they could expand and innovate – explore and adapt – labor and love.

Because the true strength of the Chiss comes from markets, technology, and cooperation, Ziliac has dedicated himself to opening up his xenophobic and (frankly) bigoted people to the Lesser Galaxy, braving the Chaos, and finding new markets.
