It’s been 5 years since the Battle of Yavin. The Empire has fallen. This galactic shift means a lot of things to a lot of people, but to some people, it isn’t about politics or galactic freedom. It’s about racing. And the fall of the Empire means that racing is back.

Racing in the Major Hybrid Racing League isn’t like podracing or swoop racing—it’s everything, all at once. A no-rules, no-holds barred, whatever-scrapheap-gets-over-the-finish line-first wins. Swoops, pods, speeders—you name it, it’s on the track. Some are sleek, some look cobbled together out of garbage. Everything is custom. Everything is fast. Everything is built to win. And the winner is always a surprise. There’s a reason it’s known as “Devil Racing”. In sight of the shining floating cities of Aquaris, out across the gleaming cerulean seas, on tracks that snake from desert wastes to frozen canyons, to shadowy jungles to lower atmosphere… Will you meet a high-speed death? Gran Prix is a building event inspired by all of the stylish, high-speed racing in the galaxy far, far away.

The cup takes place across four worlds (to keep the scenery interesting). You can choose to build on any of them.

Haruun Kal | Jungle

Jungled plateaus crown a sea of poisonous gas.

Ando Prime | Ice

Frigid glaciers and ice canyons snake through the ancient ruins of the Dai Bendu.

Aquaris | Ocean

Glittering ocean world with advanced floating cities.

Nar Kreeta | Desert

Spires of metal jut out of this world's arid desert wastes.

RULES Entrants can post three builds total: two racing vehicles, and one non-vehicle build.

Your racers can be any kind of racing machine: speeder, swoop bike, podracer, riot pod, starfighter, anything. Detail along the lines of LEGO’s Speed Champions theme is the goal. We highly recommend coming up with a unique identity, color scheme, and even sponsors for your racers.

Your third build can’t win the Prix, but it can help you join the fun. It can be inspired by either of the following prompts:

• A vehicle garage or Pit where crew are prepping for the race, facing off with rivals, or learning the tracks.
• Celebrations among the audience in the spectator stands. The Gran Prix attracts spectators from all across the galaxy, some care less about the race and more about the games, gambling, drinking… The Devil Classic is a place to make a fortune, or succumb to debt, or worse.

Good editing is a plus (reach out to the community for help, if you need it!), as is building a bit of track or landscape to give builds as much atmosphere as possible.

PRIZES

Whoever’s racer scores the highest with the judges takes the title of Gran Prix Champion.

The winner, as well as one randomly drawn participant, will win a TBD LEGO set, worth upwards of $40.

The top three placers, along with one randomly drawn participant, will get a prize for the upcoming season: a boatload of credits, and the right to use a ship build from the previous seasons for their faction in Season 3, of equal value to the score of their racer.

Suffice it to say, ships are always a valuable commodity. Everyone who participates will get a Gran Prix Racer title that will follow them into next season. To receive this title, and be eligible for prizes, you must submit at least one Racer build. Builds should be posted to the SWFactions.net forum and linked in ⁠posts-archive. Use the tag “GranPrix”.
